Jack Peter Grealish
(born 10 September 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a winger or attacking midfielder for English Premier League club Manchester City and the England national team.
Grealish joined Aston Villa at the age of six, and made his debut for the club in May 2014, following a loan spell at Notts County.
Eligible to represent England or the Republic of Ireland internationally, Grealish played for the Republic of Ireland up to Under-21 level before finally deciding to play for England in April 2016. He played for England Under-21 for the first time in May 2016, winning the 2016 Toulon Tournament.
In 2021, Grealish left Villa and moved to Manchester City in a £100 million transfer deal, making him the most expensive English player ever.
Early Life
Grealish was born in Birmingham, West Midlands[4] and raised near Solihull.[5] She attended Our Lady of Compassion Roman Catholic Primary School and St Peter's Roman Catholic High School in Solihull.[6]
He is of Irish descent, his maternal grandfather from County Dublin, his paternal grandfather from Gort, County Galway, and his paternal grandmother from Sneem, County Kerry.[7][8][9] Due to his Irish background, Grealish played Gaelic football for John Mitchel's Hurling and Camogie Club of the Warwickshire GAA between the ages of 10 and 14. He competed against Manchester United defender Aoife Mannion, a classmate at school, in Gaelic football.[10] ]
Grealish's younger brother, Keelan, died of sudden infant death syndrome in April 2000 at the age of nine months.[11]
His great-grandfather, Billy Garraty, was also a footballer, appearing in one game with England and winning the 1905 FA Cup Final with Aston Villa.[12][13]
Manchester City
On 5 August 2021, Manchester City announced that Grealish had signed a six-year contract that would run until 2027.[14] It was also reported that the transfer fee paid to Aston Villa was £100 million, which is the most expensive transfer of all time for an English player,
as well as the highest transfer fee ever paid by an English club.[15] Grealish was given the number 10 shirt by the team previously worn by club legend Sergio Agüero, with Agüero leaving City a month earlier after ten seasons with the team.[16] Ten days later,
Grealish made his City debut in a 1–0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the first week of the 2021–222 Premier League.[17] On 21 August,
Grealish scored his first goal for the club in a 5–0 win over Norwich City.[18] He scored on his Champions League debut on 15 September,
putting Cityzens 4–2 ahead in a 6–3 home win over RB Leipzig in their opening group stage match. He also provided the assist for Nathan Aké's goal which was City's opener.[19]
